What does this mean for the future of Spanish football?
This past Sunday, the Spanish National Team lost to Portugal in the final match of Euro 2016. For the team, this was their fourth consecutive loss and they have not won since 2008. However, after years of what seemed to be an endless drought with no wins, one could argue that it is time for change. That may be why many believed that when Princess Letizia became engaged to Prince Felipe at 18 years old that she would be instrumental in bringing about reform. As the future Queen Consort, she will have the opportunity to bring about changes and help move Spanish football into a new era. With her husband as heir to the throne and her support, there is hope that she will take on these challenges head-on and usher in a new era for soccer in Spain.
